Case Study | Sweaty & Soulful
7-Day Beginner's Yoga Guide

Sweaty & Soulful is an inclusive movement brand built on a simple premise: fitness should be about how you feel, not how you look. Moving away from the rigid, "no pain, no gain" wellness aesthetic, the brand focuses on intuitive, supportive, and accessible movement practices.

When they launched Start Yoga Here: 7 Days, No Stress, the goal was to create a digital foundation guide for complete beginners that felt gentle and highly actionable. I partnered with them to establish the visual language, art direction, and comprehensive layout design for the 27-page interactive publication.

Visual Strategy & Creative Direction

To separate Sweaty & Soulful from typical clinical or overly aggressive fitness styles, I developed an editorial-forward visual identity for the publication.

  • Palette: A warm, grounding colour story utilising soft terracotta, muted blush gradients, and rich, deep burgundy. This creates an inviting, home environment feel that signals comfort rather than high-intensity stress.

  • Typography: A strategic pairing of a bold, nostalgic, seventies-inspired serif headline font with clean, highly readable modern sans-serif body copy. This bridges the gap between a soulful, expressive brand and a clear, instructional workbook.

Editorial Layout & User Experience

Because this is an online, interactive guide, the user journey had to be seamless across both desktop and mobile platforms while being practised live on a mat.

  • Grid and Hierarchy: Designed an airy, intentional grid system with generous white space to reduce cognitive overwhelm for beginners. Poses, instructional tips, and modification cues are modularised for immediate scanning.

  • Asymmetrical Elements: Implemented clean archways, circular video preview containers, and fluid organic colour blocks to give the document a dynamic, editorial magazine aesthetic rather than a rigid corporate document.

  • Instructional Breakdowns: Structured complex technical data, such as the "Meet Your Props" and "Props in Action" matrices, into digestible visual cards that illustrate DIY home alternatives (like using a book instead of a yoga block) alongside live action photography.

High-Utility Interactive Assets

A guide is only effective if it gets used and can be built upon. I created repeatable, functional frameworks throughout the guide to keep users engaged.

  • Interactive Elements: Created prominent visual cues to help users easily identify elements they could interact with in the document, such as button-style calls-to-action and video play icons for clickable links and structured, minimalist reflection pages at the end of each daily module featuring custom icons and elements.

“I like things a rather specific way, and as a founder, handing over design can feel like handing over control. But Bhekisisa made the process seamless.

Bheki understood my vision, mirrored it beautifully, and elevated it with his professional eye. He created a polished PDF lead magnet and a modular template that fully integrated my branding, while also suggesting creative directions that felt fresh and aligned.

His work has set up Sweaty & Soulful with systems that make it so much easier to scale while staying on-brand. He’ll be my go-to contractor for any graphic design work in the future.”
